1. What is this page for?

This page is for all former employees of Proteon Inc. At this site you can add your work information, as well as a home email address and phone number. It's a great way to keep track of where your former co-workers are.

2. Why did you start this page?

Back in 1997 I was victim to one of the many layoffs that Proteon had during the end of their existence. At first I was just collecting email addresses of people I wanted to keep in touch with. Also at that time I was learning to write HTML code. I got the idea to create a web page that contained the email addresses I had for ex-Proteon employees.  The original Ex-Proteon page stayed in its original format from 1997 until 2004 when, after attending a Proteon reunion in Marlboro, I decided it was time to update the page and make it more dynamic. Now people can add themselves to the page and update their own information.

3. What was Proteon?

Although I don't have any official marketing propaganda to describe Proteon, I'll do my best. Proteon was one of the pioneering data networking companies in the industry. They were a leading token ring provider with the motto "Token Ring to Everything". Proteon came out with one of the first multi-port and multi-protocol routers. Unfortunately they were overtaken by the likes of Cisco and Wellfleet (Wellfleet becoming Bay Networks which then became part of Nortel). In the late 90's Proteon changed its name to Openroute Networks and was subsequently bought by  Nx Networks based in Virginia.  Then in November of 2001 Nx Networks filed for Chapter 11 and soon thereafter closed its doors for good. That marked the end of Proteon.

4. I'm uneasy about putting my email addresses on this page for fear of webbots and web spiders grabbing my email address and sending me spam.

Not to worry. All the individual listing pages are dynamic, meaning they don't exist until you specifically request a certain page. Webbots and spiders don't like traversing "CGI" scripts, which these pages are created from. They especially don't like having a "?" in the URL of the page. So, for example, if you selected my individual listing, the address would be http://pton.gprc.com/cgi-bin/listperson.cgi?id=1   As soon as webbots and spiders get to the ? in the address, they terminate. Thus, they never see the individual page. All your personal information is safeguarded from bots and spiders because of this.

5. I don't remember my password and want to edit my information. What do I do?

Not a problem. If your individual listing contains a current home email address, just go to your individual listing and click on the "Forgot Password" link at the bottom of the page. The site will generate a new random password for you and email it to your home email. If a home email isn't listed it will email it to your work email. If both don't exist, or you know they're both incorrect, then click on the "Contact Me" link and send me a message. I'll reset your password for you and email it to you.

6. How can I add photos to the site?

Currently this is NOT automated. Contact me and let me know that you have photos you want to add. After that we'll arrange a way for you to get the photos to me (point me to a web page, email them to me, etc...).
